A Cabinet Bed Authority guide, powered by CBA’s Dealer & Market Registry. Published by Eric Long (Atlantic Fine Furniture, Melbourne FL); we don’t manufacture or sell cabinet beds nationally and earn no commission. Methodology: How We Evaluate Cabinet Beds.

The short version

Cabinet beds are sold three ways: through independent furniture and mattress dealers, through specialty Murphy-bed dealers, and online (Costco, Wayfair, Amazon, Walmart). For a 300–400 lb freight item you’ll keep 15–25 years, seeing and operating one in person before buying is worth the trip — returns run $400–$600. None of the five US manufacturers sells direct nationally; they all route through dealers, so “where to buy” really means “find a local dealer who carries one of the five makers.” This answers “where to buy a cabinet bed” and “where can I see a cabinet bed in person?”

The three ways to buy

Channel What it’s good for Trade-off
Independent furniture / mattress dealers See it, operate it, local delivery + warranty service Selection varies; may order finishes to spec
Specialty Murphy-bed dealers (e.g., More Space Place, Wallbeds N More) Hands-on Murphy/cabinet expertise Fewer locations
Online retailers (Costco, Wayfair, Amazon, Walmart) Convenience, reviews, price visibility No in-person test; freight delivery; harder returns

Costco, Wayfair, and Amazon are retailers, not makers — the bed in their listing is usually one of the five US manufacturers (often Arason or Night & Day) under a retailer or sub-brand name. See the Manufacturer Census.

Availability by manufacturer (from the Dealer & Market Registry)

Manufacturer Where it’s easiest to find Ships from
Arason Broad independent-dealer network (MAP pricing) Stevensville, MD
Night & Day Independent/regional dealers Rockville, MD
Lineage / Sea Winds Dealer network + public locator; strong in Carolinas/VA Asheboro, NC
Alexander & Sheridan FL/Southeast dealers (in-state freight edge ~$50) Sanford, FL
Cottage Creek Independent dealers (often as “sleep chests”) distributor

Regional note: Florida and the Southeast have the easiest in-person access and the lowest freight (Alexander & Sheridan ships in-state for ~$50 vs $90–$260 from MD/NC makers). Most other metros have cabinet beds through general furniture/mattress dealers even where no cabinet-bed specialist exists.

In person vs online — the honest call

  • Buy in person if you can. A cabinet bed is heavy freight with a $400–$600 return cost; operating the mechanism and lying on the mattress first removes almost all the risk (see Common Problems). Local dealers also handle delivery and warranty service — meaningfully better when something needs a claim.
  • Buying online can work if you’ve seen the same model elsewhere, you’ve measured your delivery path (Dimensions Database), and you accept freight delivery and harder returns.

How CBA helps you find one

CBA is an independent guide, not a store. Our Cabinet Bed Finder routes your inquiry to a local dealer who carries cabinet beds, can show you the product in person, and handles delivery and setup locally. If no dealer covers your area yet, leave your ZIP and we’ll notify you when one does.

Common questions

Where can I buy a cabinet bed?

Through independent furniture/mattress dealers, specialty Murphy-bed dealers, or online (Costco/Wayfair/Amazon). The makers don’t sell direct nationally — find a local dealer carrying one of the five. Use the Finder below.

Where can I see a cabinet bed in person?

At local furniture/mattress and specialty Murphy-bed dealers in most US metros. Seeing one before buying a heavy freight item is worth it — use the Finder to locate the nearest option.

Is it cheaper to buy a cabinet bed online?

Sometimes, but factor freight and harder returns, and you lose the in-person mechanism/mattress test and local warranty service. The same maker’s bed is often available locally.

Are Costco/Wayfair cabinet beds different brands?

No — they’re retailers; the bed is made by one of the five US manufacturers. See the Manufacturer Census.
